The level of care you need depends on your paddle.
High-end carbon fiber paddles frequently are quite
brittle in that you can chip the blade. Some paddlers
are just very careful with their blade, and others
that don't want to risk chipping their paddle even
go so far as to put an edging around the edge of
the blade of the paddle. Simple electrical tape
will suffice, or there are aftermarket paddle edging
products. Of course, this will affect the performance
characteristics of the paddle, which is typically
the whole point of getting a high-end carbon fiber
paddle in the first place. There are protective
paddle bags on the market that you can use to carry
and store your paddles.
