Whether it’s a first date or a Friday night ritual, dinner and a movie is the most common date option. Sure it’s an easy go to, but is it the best option to get to know someone new or spend quality time with your sig other? Now that it's officially summer, we say ditch the routine and try some of these fun ideas instead.
Get an adrenaline rush. Next time you're worried about filling a date with conversation, try doing something that will give you both an adrenaline rush. Not only will conversation flow more naturally getting out of your comfort zone together, but you’ll see a different side of the person you’re with and bond over sharing the experience together.
Here's some ideas to get you going:
1.) Skydiving. Nothing gets the blood pumping like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. See picture above.
2.) Bungee jumping. Or off the side of a cliff or building.
3.) Jet ski. Or you could try something a little more tame & get the benefits of a pants-optional date.
4.) Surf. Is there anything sexier than being in the ocean and the rush of catching waves together?
5.) White water raft. The experience will bond the two of you and it takes a lot of communication to successfully get down a river.
Get sweaty. It's a well-known fact that exercising releases endorphins, or those feel good chemicals that give us that feeling of euphoria. The endorphin high can be magnified when shared with someone else, too. Studies have shown that after participating in an exciting physical challenge or activity, couples reported feeling more satisfied with their relationships and more in love with their partner. There are endless ideas to get your blood flowing, but here are a few of our faves.
6.) Bike. Whether you choose to leisurely explore a new neighborhood or hit the trails with your mountain bikes, there's something about exploring by bike with someone that is fun and exposes a carefree side of people.
7.) Hike. Being alone in nature together allows you to disconnect from the world around you and fully take in the moment. Try a new trail or show your date one of your favorite views.
8.) Try acro yoga. This is a great way to build trust and have a silly, fun time together. We suggest taking a class if you're new to the sport so an instructor can show you the proper way to enter and exit poses.
9.) Rock climb. The challenge & feat of getting to the top together will make you feel closer.
10.) Paddle board. Get a great full body workout together while taking in the serenity of being on the water.
Try something new together. Maybe it's not in the cards to have a physically demanding date, but you can still get adventurous! Just the excitement of trying something neither of you have done before will bring you closer together. Give these ideas a try if you're into keeping risk taking at a minimum.
11.) Take a cooking class. Instead of going out to dinner, why not break the ice and have a lot more fun by learning to cook a new meal? Plus, there's almost a 100% guarantee your date will find this fun and sweet.
12.) Try meditation. Take your minds on an adventure and practice mindful breathing and visualization at a meditation class. Meditation can be an extremely powerful tool to being present in the moment and sharing the experience with a partner is sure to create a sense of togetherness and appreciation for each other.
13.) Go to a street fair or market. Get to know your partner's tastes at a market or street fair. Pick out some one-of-a-kind goods and give your taste buds a treat with all of the street food vendors!
15.) Get off the grid. For the least surprising fact of the day - we spend an average of 8 hours a day with our eyes staring at a screen. There's nothing like getting off the grid and going on an overnight camping trip to feel more intimate with someone.
