Touring Paddle Boards - A New Frontier in Inflatable SUPs

Touring paddle boards are built to go fast and long distances. Touring paddle boards are meant for those SUPers who want to go long distances, travel fast, and cut through the water with ease. It will shock you how fast the touring 14' Tower Xplorer inflatable paddle board is. At 8" thick, it will also shock you how rigid it is. At the time of introduction, not only is there no other 14' iSUP on the market. Nor is there any other 8" thick iSUPs on the market. The Xplorer represents and entirely new class of paddle board, and everyone who tries it falls in love.

Traditional hard board unlimited racing class SUPs are the fastest boards on the market. At 14' or longer, and with many over 7.5 inches thick, they also present a massive storage and transportation problem. For speed and glide, the longer the better, but it's a bitter tradeoff. You need an oversized room or garage to store them, and you've got to crate them for shipping (at a cost of $1000s per shipment). This is largely why more manageable 12'6" length hard boards have become the standard racing class size, but really they're still monsters to transport.

However, when you go with an inflatable, the length is largely irrelevant for storage and transportation as you just roll them up and go. We figured the longer the better, and we were right on the money. Once we tested the boards, we were blown away at the speed. It's the fastest board in our entire line-up... and it fits in a duffel bag when rolled up. A touring paddle board with this performance would typically be upwards of $1500 at retail. As we are a direct to consumer company, we provide you with incredible value for a high quality board.

Amazing Rigidity

Be weary of newer boards made with the fused process. While they may be lighter, they lose rigidity and durability in this newer construction process and are much lower quality boards overall.

The Tower Xplorer Inflatable SUP is made from extremely rugged materials like those you'd find on the highly regarded Zodiac boats and extreme river rafts. The amazing rigidity in the Xplorer is created by thousands of vertically oriented strands of identical length that connect the top deck to the bottom. When inflated, they form a structure that has the rigidity of a piece of plywood, and the thicker you go the exponentially more rigid it gets. The Tower Xplorer is an unparalleled 8" thick. You'll be amazed. We can literally put the front tip of the 14' Tower Xplorer on one chair and the rear tip on another chair and a 200 lb person can stand in the middle and you can barely see the thing flex. A touring paddle board of this quality will ensure that your paddle boarding adventures last for years to come.

A Viable EPS/Epoxy Board Alternative - We're not kidding!

Traditionally, inflatable SUPs were only a consideration for traveling - store one in the cuddy cabin on your yacht, take it with you on the plane, or haul it into that secret mountain lake or river and you can stand up paddle board in the farthest corners of the earth. With the combination of speed and rigidity of the Tower Xplorer, an inflatable SUP is hard to beat on flatwater with anything less than a full-fledged racing hard board... and don't be surprised if it outperforms a few of those.

Although most high performance touring paddle boards are hardboards, our inflatable touring paddle board has proved to match up with traditional touring hardboards. With its 14 foot length you have the ability to bring cargo such as bags, coolers, fishing gear, snorkeling gear and many other items that you will need on a long touring journey.

Benefits of an Inflatable SUP over an EPS/Epoxy board

  • Easier to store - When rolled up, it's 1 foot in diameter and 37" wide.
  • Indestructible - Never worry again about dings and board cracks. I've literally thrown these things off a 2nd story deck and I frequently set it down anywhere (gravel, a parking lot, even on cement stairs).
  • Easier to transport - No need for roof racks. About the size of a rolled sleeping bag, it easily fits in any car or boat, and can even be strapped onto a bicycle or motorcycle. You can even take it on a plane.
  • Softer - You can literally play bumper boats with these. Kids can jump from one board to the other like they're jumping on an inner tube. You won't get knocked out in the waves either.
  • Easy on the feet - While very rigid, the air does cushion your feet a lot more than a hard board, no matter how good the deck pad is.
  • Less expensive - Which also makes it a great idea as a second board for travel or guests.

Paddling Paradise

Review by: from Cape Cod MA on 9/14/2020
I have been searching for the right SUP for a while and curious to jump into this lifestyle. Tower did not disappoint! First, the shipping was quick. The board itself is incredibly sturdy and has performed great on pond and open ocean. It takes a little work to pump manually, but that’s expected. The deflation is a breeze and fits perfectly in the back of my car. Other boards I was looking at had so many extra accessories which are completely unnecessary. I appreciate the simplicity and no nonsense design that Tower offers.

Awesome SUP - highly recommend!

I bought the Xplorer 14' and am very happy with it. WAY more stable than most inflatables I've tried. Was able to fit three adults comfortably and it was still very stable.

Best ever

My entire family of five has taken the paddleboard out into the ocean on several occasions now. My little dogs have written on it. Everybody loves it. It is steady and handles extremely well! Best buy ever and I will absolutely be buying another one!

Incredible board and great service

Review by: from Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 7/6/2020
The 14’ Xplorer is amazing value for such a fantastic board. I got out with my gf and it is super stable and really easy to paddle with. It takes me about 10 mins to get it up to pressure and no time at all to deflate it and roll it up. My only recommendation would be for it to come with bungees at the front of the board to secure things.

Its way to cold to go out on the water, its still ice cube cold water around here, but I inflated it to test seams. Fat outta shape girl here got it inflated with the included pump in 12 minutes. Gauge on pump never moved but board was full and had no give to it.
No big deal for me, I've had gauges that are bad...have a box of good ones. Its Durable...a 78 pound English springer and a 58 pound English springer thought this was a new jump on item in the living withstood super sharp claws of both dogs jumping on and off of it while I inflated it and glued the d rings to it. I since moved it to the garage for safer storage while the d rings glue cured. Does have nose and tail rings so I could put my leash on it. Paddle...well that's rather heavy so i cut a chunk of pool noodle and crammed that on the handle give it a lil floatability and easy to see for my eventual practice a zillion ways to fall off before I get the hang of this...again. Best feature, board is good for us fat people that love the water and may wanna take a friend, or maybe my 2 dogs. Or just stretch out and take a nap. Thank you for making a board that works for us tall people and us fat people. Might not be the market angle for isups, but its really great anyways. Can't wait to try it on water.

Xplorer 14 - good and bad

Review by: from New York on 7/11/2019
Just received this SUP. Here is the good.Incredibly stable SUP for a guy who weighs 285 lbs and is 6’5” tall. Yea I could lose a few lbs. Sup cuts through water like a hot knife on butter. Good paddle and adjust to my height no problem. The bad. I bought a package, so as part of the package I expected it came with a tether/leash. Had to buy separately. Also no bag. This sup is not small when rolled up. Would have gladly paid more to have the right bag from the manufacturer. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

Explorer 14

Review by: from Midwest on 5/30/2019
Explorer 14 is SUPER STABLE!!!! I mostly paddle Midwest streams and rivers so I don’t know how it will surf. The length takes getting used to, kinda like riding a 29er (mountain bike). Very soon the benefits are known like speed, tracking, and stability. The height is wild 8 inches keeps your feet OUT of the water! I feel like I’ll love this board the more I use it!!!

Built for the bigger SUPPERS

Review by: from Canada - Toronto on 6/25/2018
I am 6 ft 4 inches tall and weigh 300 lbs. This SUP carries me with no issues. I have been out 4 times since picking up 3 weeks ago. I live in Canada and searched high and low for a SUP that would handle my weight. I could not find any. I then came across TOWER boards and kept putting it off as i was reluctant to buy online without seeing the quality. I bit the bullet and ordered for myself as a Birthday present. I am very happy with the board. It inflates easy with the manual and electric pump. Easy to roll up and transport. I use an old hockey bag to carry it around. If i had anything negative to say it would be.

1) Include D Rings and a bungee for tie downs. I ordered 6 D rings and glued them on and bought some Bungee cord to make a tie down. The other Tower Sups include this so why not include it on the 14' board.

2) As another tall reviewer stated. The 3 pc paddle adjustment is in a bad spot for a tall rider. Sits right in the palm of your lower hand. I will look at a one piece paddle in the future.

3) With the board being 8 inches thick it is a beast to get back on in deep water when/if you fall off. It takes alot of effort to get back on top. I stick to the shoreline mostly. Hopefully it will come easier with experience.

For those on the fence...go ahead and will not be sorry

Failed Miserably

Review by: from Denver/Lake of the Ozarks on 6/16/2018
I ordered the board and paid for expedited shipping of two days in order to give this as a birthday present for my nephew. We were leaving for Lake of the Ozarks on Monday morning after planning for a year. We oredered it on the Friday 10 days before with two days shipping. When we had received nothing as of Thursday we contacted the company and they informed us that they screwed up and had not even sent it.... 5 days later not even sent yet... At that point they told me it would be to me by the following Wednesday, after I had paid for 2 day shipping. I then threatened to just cancel and they told me they could over night it and have it to me by Saturday at 10 a.m. so we decided to ride it out hoping to still have it for our trip and nephews gift... Again no delivery on Saturday, and no delivery on Sunday either. We left for the Ozarks on Monday morning and needless to say we have no paddleboard for my nephews birthday and our trip. Totally blew it on this one and I wouldn’t recomend buying from these guys in the least. We thought this would be a great company with great service since it was a mark cuban company but the real story is they blew off our order, lied to us, and did not honor any of the things they advertised or promised and we went to tge lake for vacation and a birthday with no paddleboard or birthday gift! Thanks guys!!!

Well this is a big board! 14 foot long and 8 inches thick. I'm 6'4" and 310 lbs this SUP holds me with no problem. No flexing or bending in the middle. It held another person on the front of the board who was 200 pounds and not a problem, the board paddled without a problem. So any big people don't be afraid to order this SUP.
With the hand pump it takes about 10 min to inflate. With the electronic pump it takes about 15 min. Both work without a problem.
The 3 piece paddle works great too, it is sturdy and stiff. Being 6'4" the top adjustable locking part is right in the way for a natural hand position, so i have to extend the paddle all the way out to the max position so being tall one might look at a 1 piece paddle.

It is fantastic.

My prevoius experience was with thos wood boards of the 60's. And there shoud not be compared. Tower delivered what they claim. It is a fantastic board to use and then to transport.

Exceptional Customer Service

Review by: from on 6/29/2017
My girlfriend and I have really enjoyed the Xplorer since purchasing over 2 months ago. We take the iSUP out almost every week. This board is excellent for tandem riders and better for this use than other brands we have rented when on vaca in the past. It is extremely stable with the added height off the water yet we are able to move fairly fast.

I would caution against over tightening the hose and and air pressure gauge to the pump. I had a problem once with this issue but the great staff at Tower solved the problem and have followed up with me several times to make sure I was happy. There Customer service is outstanding.

I did quite a bit of research on many different brands of SUPs before my purchase and kept coming back to this brand. They seemed to have the best quality for the price and I am soo happy with the board and this purchase. The staff was very helpful with any questions I had over the phone or email and recommend Tower to everyone.

Great board!

Excellent flotation and fast

Review by: from on 4/26/2017
I have previously used and own 2 tower paddle boards (the adventurer and adventurer 2). Loved the boards but was looking for something with more flotation and speed. The explorer 14' fits this bill. It is faster in the water when I'm looking for all out speed or when going on a longer paddle. It is also great when I need to paddle a couple of the kids and the dog around due to the increased flotation capacity. I love the board.

Quick and painless

We live in Saudi Arabia, so it's not very often that you buy something and it ships and shows up in less than a week with no problems. My husband loves his board and we are grateful that the shopping experience was so easy.

14' beast

Review by: from on 3/22/2017
I bought the 14' Xplorer for a trip to Mexico. I had a very easy time pumping it up. It is amazingly stiff fully inflated and super stable with my wife and I and two 50# kids.

It's robust and stable enough that we were calling it a boat especially after an open ocean paddle.

It was a really good floating dock for kids wrestling floating in chest deep water because falling on it is friendly enough.

It's a bunch of fun in a package light enough for a checked bag including a few other things like the pump and an extra paddle and some snorkeling stuff.

No problem deflating and rolling back up to come home.

It and its condiments fit nicely in an 18" x 42'' cheap duffle with room for some other stuff.

Xplorer 14'

LOVE this board. Sarah made an excellent recommendation in upgrading to this board for me and my 90 pound dog. Super stable even when he's moving about and changing position. He loves it, I love it--couldn't be happier with the purchase!

Xplorer iSUP Package - 14'

Review by: from on 9/8/2016
I purchased my 14' Xplorer inflatable based on online reviews. I wanted a board that could be paddled tandem and/or carry me (230 lbs) plus a couple of my kids.

The board is exactly what I wanted and works perfectly. It shipped quickly and arrived with everting I needed. It appears to be very well constructed and durable. It packs up small and is light enough to handle easily. It paddles very straight and effortlessly and paddles well with two or even three people. It also makes a great swim impromptu platform. The board is rigid enough for a heavy paddler but soft enough that kids falling on/off it will not get injured. Overall I?m very happy with it.

The minor drawbacks are that it?s somewhat hard to get the last few PSI in (kids would find it hard) and because it?s thick, it?s probably slightly more susceptible to wind. But for bigger paddlers, it?s perfect.

Board seems to be good quality. My only concern is the bubble on the bottom of the board below the filler hole. Tower assures that this is normal.
